Karen, I am so sorry for your loss of your sweet Kodi. Reading your posts, I saw what a special dog he was, and how much he was loved. Sending prayers of comfort to you and your family.
He was 14, Sheri, old for a dog, maybe, but not that old for a Havanese. Didn’t you have problems with dementia type issues with Tucker in the end? Were they fairy sudden? I wonder if they and Kodi’s sudden onset loss of his senses have something to do with their long term auto-immune problems.Karen, it hurts my heart, to know that Kodi has passed on. I am so sorry, and think about him often. How old was he?

Kodi, my first dog. My very special boy. My "Flying Swiffer". The little dog who tried everything for me and went everywhere with us, introducing me to the world of dog sports when the world was looking pretty dim after having to give up horse sports.
He climbed mountains, waded through streams, went kayaking and snowshoeing. He was best friends with a German Shepherd, but never knew a (friendly) dog or person that he DIDN'T like!
He was so good with puppies that until he got older (and a little grumpy) that he was asked to play with small breed puppies in puppy classes who had no playmates their own size. He was good with little kids, and was wonderful with elderly people in hospice.
Fly free my sweet boy.

In a way, I feel he was “one in a million”, and I do think he had an exceptional mind. But MANY Havanese can do the kind of things he did. They are “”doing dogs” if given the chance! Last night I was watching the rerun of the Westminster Toy Group, and as the Papillon came up, the announcer said something about, “this breed and the Toy Poodle” are the two toy breeds that you see involves in dog sports!” I wanted to jump through the TV and say, wait a darned minute and just LOOK at all the Havanese competing in obedience, rally and agility. I’d wager that the numbers are pretty close to the number of Paps at this point!I must say that seeing all you did with Kodi is a reminder of just how sturdy and athletic Havanese are, and how much they are capable of in life. If we can do half the things you did with Kodi, our pups will have had a great life.
Karen, I am so sorry. Kodi was a treasure to you and to all who knew him I’m sure and I know he will be missed. Please accept my condolences for your loss.ARCHMX Starborn Kodak Moment CGC, NTD, BN, PCD, NA, NAJ, CDX-CCH, RE, RLV, RL1X3, RL2X4, RL3X3... April 30 2009 - May 9, 2023
