Tail down for the first time ever…

749 Views 34 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  LWalks
In Sydney’s entire 11 month life I have never seen her tail down. I guess a hysterectomy will do that to a girl. 😭poor sweet girl, was spay yesterday. She woke up at 2a whimpering. I carried her downstairs and laid her and her cone on my chest and we both slept til 7am. I even got a few kisses! But she is not liking the cone at all. And every time we take it off she does go for her wound.
1 day down, 13 to go. And she won’t be as sleepy. Wish us luck keeping our little acrobat quiet 🤣

Bullies as always also come to the rescue! Day 4. 10 to go! But her wound and belly look wonderful. No swelling. As long as she’s right with us we have been able to leave the cone off today.

My 9 month old female Havanese, Coco, will be spayed in August. I’m trying to learn what to do again. I have a 10 yr old female Havanese too. But it’s been along time since she was spayed. How do you use the onesie? Is the back side cut out So they can potty?
Best wishes to Sydney and her family.

She can’t pee with the onesie on. I put it on when she’s hanging out with us… and I can relieve her from the cone. We take everything off when she goes out to do her biz. Good luck with Coco.

Thank you! I‘ll make a note of onesie and cone. Jeanne

If it’s a normal baby onesie, you put it on with the front on the dog’s back, so it snaps around the dog’s tail. You just don’t snap the middle snap. Then when the dog needs to potty, you unsnap it, and roll it forward under their arm pits. You don’t need to take it off. You DO want to take it off daily, though and thoroughly groom the dog, or you will end up with mats!

Thank you! You reminded me of how I did the onesie for Maggie.

Celesthav and everyone, I forgot what a difference the “bitenot collar” makes for their mood and compliance. Syd still can’t reach her belly, but is much more comfortable. And they are much less expensive than when we needed them for the boys. That was a surprise!

Syd is so sweet. What size did you buy? Coco likes to play Houdini and can bite her way through several harnesses during car rides. I think we finally found one she can’t chew. When Maggie was under 1 yrs old, she never chewed through harnesses or anything else. Coco keeps us on our toes. Lol

3.5 inches fits Syd well. She’s a petite 9.5 lbs. the boyz who were about 14 and 17 lbs when they needed one wore a 4inch one.

Definitely check them out. Syd is so much calmer. But Miss Lili won’t need it for a few years :)

For sure!!!
One week down. One to go. Syd seems to be feeling fine (she wants to jump and run) but the vets want us to keep her sedated. Perhaps even an extra dose of gabapentin. They say the problems they see are usually when the dog “feels fine.”

Yup!!! That’s an advantage I had with Panda… she wasn’t a puppy.

Glad she’s feeling better! The vet told us the same… almost there!
