Hey all! Miss Flo seems to be teething again? She still has one canine, vet says it’s unlikely to come out on its own, so they will take out when they spay her. She will be one next month, but the teething is much worse than before. Behavior is normal other than this time she’s gnawing on everything. She did not do this before. Still has plenty of chew toys, but this just seems out of the norm. Still cute as ever, we love her so much. Thanks for the help

Unlikely to be teething at this age. She should have all her adult teeth. She is just plain “chewing” now. You need to set limits on where and what she is allowed to chew.

Miss Flo is so cute.

I am unsure if this is TRUE teething. However, my Enzo had two front retained Canines that he finally lost around month 10 or 11. He exhibited some chewing tendencies right at the time he lost them. Once they came out he stopped.

Try to open her mouth and GENTLY try and move them with your finger. See if they move a slight bit. If they do move I suspect they are on their way out and she is slightly bothered and chewing is either helping her or she is chewing because she thinks something is stuck in her teeth.

Search the forums for "Retained baby tooth" on a post I made and compare how Miss Flo's retained tooth looks compared to Enzo's.

Thank you!! It is soo bizarre behavior coming from her. We were very blessed that she really didn’t have a lot terrible teething behavior as a young puppy, we provided her with many outlets. But it’s like all of the sudden her blankie is chewed on, she never ever chewed on it, she chewing anything. I’m praying that this is similar to Enzo’s episode and maybe it is the tooth.. I’ll search it! Thank you so much!

Nearly identical to Enzo. Try moving it gently with your finger to see if it moves slightly. if it does I suspect she's naturally trying to have it fall out. Try to keep an eye on which side of her mouth she is chewing on. That's how I KNEW Enzo was "teething" despite knowing they only teeth when their adult teeth come in (to sooth the gums).

I have to say that if I were to ever get a big dog again it would be a standard poodle. My sister has one and I absolutely love her - and she loves everyone.

Have to agree with Melissa here. I don’t know about bichons, but standard poodles are one of the “fab four” of service dogs for a reason. As always though, responsible breeding is key.

Oh definitely on the responsible breeding. My sister's wasn't (puppy store pup) and she has some anxiety issues and can be quite clingy/ needy... and she's very "soft" - you never have to reprimand her and even a slightly raised voice will upset her - but she breezed through her training classes. But one from a good breeder - if ever we wanted a big dog again, definitely top of the list.
