I really like your idea about the girl scouts! I just sent an e-mail off to Michele and included what you suggested in your earlier post and asked if she was deliberately not using the Wincroft name and Sassi's championship status to avoid jerks calling with scams for the reward.

I read an update posted this morning on the yahoo group Independent Havanese Club:

"We were out last night until the police advised we go home, there were tons of accidents in the area on the streets. We are going back out today to continue posting and searching.

On animal communicator (Ca) thinks she may have been abducted, one on Tuesday said she was lost but hiding, then the one last night said she was hiding/trapped in a dark warehouse type bldg and was hurt. We got an email from the the 2nd one and she said she hasn't been able to reach or find Sassi for two days and feels horrible! She recommended we contact a lady she knows to take her place. She wasn't sure why she couldn't reach her may have been because she was physically & mentally exhausted (she was in town for a seminar / for hire event) from so many readings this weekend. The 3rd one sent me a map area he did a map dousing from Sassi. Were going to take a look today in those areas and continue posting, going to local business, vets, calling the shelters today and tomorrow.

Im just so scared for her. I will post when she is found. Prayers, blessing or what ever are all needed and welcome ! Oh and soothing loving one sent to my sister she is taking it soooooo terribly hard and I love her and want her to know she is not blamed.

Michele Johannes"

I have been following this thread and I am so upset and sick thinking about Sassi being out on her own. I'm hoping so much that she will be found today and praying for her and the family, and all those who love Sassi.

I echo what luv3havs stated--I have been praying since Sassi went missing and this is making me so sick to the stomach. I hope she is found soon; she looks like such a good dog. I hope Sassi finds her way home soon.

With the girl scouts----if she contacts just 1 troop leader (and asks her--then also ask that she share it with all other troops in her service unit). This will include at least 10 troops of girls all ages an average (probably more troops in that area) and each troop has a varied number of girls....from 3-24.

That's allot of eyes looking for Sassy and could potentially cover lots of area/house to house. Girl Scouting is BIG in my area.....and I pray they step up to help. Actually--if the leader thinks about it,this could help them earn a badge. (I helped my daughter earn them all)

I wish I had good news, but I don't have Any news to report. There have been no sightings of Sassi since the evening she disappeared - a week ago yesterday.

Michele is still going out replacing posters that are no longer up. Friends are going to shelters to see if Sassi has shown up there. But nothing yet. Sigh....

My instincts tell me this also......I think someone has her and has decided to keep her without necessarily thinking about someone desperately searching for her. People still dump unwanted animals and people think "finders keepers". The microchip will help her eventually get home I hope should the unsuspecting person take her to the vet. (Let's hope they do their job and scan her).

My SIL got a saint bernard pup and the pup wandered off their farm and a neighbor about 5 miles away found her and had intended to keep her. This case was cracked because the person went on facebook and told of this new family member they had (my SIL's Pup). They has searched within a 10 mile radius of their farm and had did everything to find this pup. People just don't always think about searching in reverse (finder searching for owner).Kinda sad.....but that mentality.....finder's keepers still reigns in the midwest anyway. Now,with microchipping, you would think that would help put an end to it,but so many are unaware of any microchip.

Is Sassi ALL OVER facebook? Maybe that would help?
I have her on my facebook......maybe more can add her also to help plaster her furry face all over facebook and that could possibly help like it did in my SIL's case.

Sassi has not been found yet.

Michele did receive an email and phone calls from an apparent scammer. It was very hurtful, but he seems to be a stupid scam-artist, so she did not fall for his ploy.

She reported it to the company he claimed to work for (a legitimate lost and found website), and a representative said they would ask his internet mail provider to block his access. There is probably not more that they can do as he is probably not in the USA. I went to 800notes.com (one of the only free phone# lookup sites) to check his phone number, and it said the number originated from Jamaica.

I posted that the caller is a scam-artist to allow others to be alerted to his game. What a horrible man he is to be preying on a desperate pet owner!

Maybe it says in this thread - I did not see it, although if flyers were put out she probably did this too - did Michele put a notice in the local paper(s) Lost and Found, or even an ad? When I lost my cockatiel years ago, I did get a few calls and went and checked out the birds, but they weren't my little girl.

I know about an ad in the online version of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and its corresponding Suburban Journals, but I do not know if she placed the ad in the print version of the paper. I will ask her.

I am sorry about your little bird. It is so hard when we lose one of our "kids," whether furred or feathered.

Thanks, Linda.
