Chase is just adorable!! and sounds like he’s settling in nicely and getting a good start on training! Will you do puppy classes with him too or just training on your own? Either way, the food motivation will make things so much easier!

Charlie is very food motivated, but haven’t used food toys much since he was a puppy, but recently got a few so he has some stimulation while on crate rest for IVDD! We have the same snuffle mat which he loves (and it takes him 20 mins to eat his dinner rather than 90 seconds) and a similar lick mat for a treat. We use a tiny bit of plain canned pumpkin and yogurt, and then freeze it for a bit to make it last a little longer. The one we got has suction cups on the back so it seems like it would be awesome to use to distract during a bath or grooming, especially with a puppy that’s still figuring whether to like these things…. Charlie hates baths so much he refuses even the highest value treats!

Can’t wait to see more photos of Chase as he grows!
Thanks for the additional ideas for the lick mat, Lisa! This one does also have suction cups too. Chase, alas, also isn’t a fan of baths. He had gotten a bit wet on the grass after some rain and had some debris on his undercarriage so I rinsed him in a dishpan in the kitchen sink. Yikes, if he could have crawled through my skin he would have, poor baby. He also didn’t have interest in treats. I did all the wash & grooming with my prior dog so I am pretty quick and comfortable with the baths but I will NOT be attempting to groom āœ‚ his beautiful coat!

Yes! We’ll be attending Puppy Kindergarten after the July 4th holiday. I am really looking forward too for the socialization aspect for him.

Don't let him play you for sympathy! LOL! None of them LIKE baths, but he won't melt, and he survived his baths here JUST fine! LOL! Don't let him play the "poor baby card! I told EACH of them during their baths/blow dries, that I was sorry, but they'd better just suck it up and get used to it... They were Havanese, and this was a glimpse of the rest of their lives!

Tell him Mama Karen said "None of that, young sir!" :ROFLMAO:

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ Uh oh, I can see the finger waggin’ from here!!

As an aside, we showed the video hubby took of Panda and the pups playing from our pick up day. Chase pretty much watched the entire video and seemed VERY interested when he heard your voice! He must have been thinking šŸ’ ā€˜Hey! I know that voice! Where is she!?’ šŸ¤”

That's a great idea Lisa!! Southwest Washington hit 111 degrees today and I think my brain is a little fried as well. Our kids get canned pumpkin every night. I just gave them a little bit on their mats from the freezer and they loved it! The best ideas are frequently the most simple onesšŸ˜‹
My friend had a Dachshund with IVDD several years ago and I remeber the need for rest at certain intervals during the day and when they travelled. How old is Charlie?

I did the same thing with Jodie! Every time I watched a video from her website or YouTube she would lick the screen several times and then scratch it, and wait for her to appear. It was too cutešŸ˜†
Watch out for the finger wag, Karen knows, I'm not sure how, but she always knowsšŸ˜…

Awww! Tell him I miss him, and can’t WAIT to see how much he’s grown when we have a play date! Just need to get past this horribly hot weather… nobody wants to play outdoors for long right now!!! ā¤

LOL! We went back to visit the Kings with Kodi for the first time when Kodi was 4 years old. (It’s a LONG way… 2 day drive with the travel trailer!) The FIRST thing Kodi did was walk into the house like he’d never left. The SECOND thing he did was jump into Tom’s lap for a cuddle!ā¤. Now, Kodi is a very people oriented dog, and he is friendly with everyone. But he’s not a ā€œlap dogā€. He doesn’t often jump into people’s laps. But TOM clearly had SPECIAL status!

...I’m laughing here on the tongue clicking as I am noticing any sounds out of the ordinary will cause Chase to stop whatever he’s doing and give a head tilt stare. I guess I laugh in a funny way because he does that to me! šŸ˜‚ ...
I think about that sort of thing any time clicker training comes up - I know the sound is slightly different... but I realized at some point that I had sort of done an opposite-of-clicker training for Perry. When he's doing something he's not supposed to (like right now when his cone is off and he licks his bandage OR is chewing on his feet) I snap my fingers and he stops (when I don't feel like making the "eh' sound)

Yes, I had done the same with my prior dog, and I also had a little tin with some pennies in it which would stop her in her tracks. I would save this for when she was roughing up her bed. Chase has started to bite up his bed. He’s a good chewer so lots of chewing toys for this boy!

In other news, we tested out the new stroller the last sweltering day we had in the northeast, and yesterday when the temps had cooled down and we had some much needed showers, we tried out his rain slicker!

Too cute! I know they're eyebrows but peeking out from the stroller they look like little wingsšŸ˜‹
Actually NOT eyebrows! Chase has the MOST wonderful "NOSE brow"! šŸ’— (Chase on the right)
