I won’t be picking up Piper for a month (big sigh), but I want to be prepared. Which method of indoor potty training do you prefer and why? Also, since I ultimately want her to potty outdoors, should I not do any indoor training? The main reason I wanted to do this was for nights. Between my cpap and OH, I need to sleep as well as possible. Ultimately, I want Piper to sleep with me. How long should I wait before I start this?

Thanks for being patient with a newbie!

People who start RIGHT AWAY with indoor potty training have less accidents (in general) than those who INSIST on ONLY training to outdoors. ESPECIALLY when starting with baby puppies. What you need to teach baby puppies is that are "right" places to go and "wrong" place to go. Indoor potty options helps them understand that concept.

If you MUST use pee pads, make sure you put them in a tray where they are pinned down and the puppy can't play with them and chew them up. Havanese are paper shredders. I HATE pee pads for a number of reasons. All that plastic is terrible for the environment. They STINK as soon as they are peed on the first time. Many puppies WILL NOT use them again once they are peed on once. And, as I mentioned, most Havanese puppies will tear them up, throw them around and play with them... clean or dirty. They don't care. ;)
Thank you for your quick response. What do you suggest instead of pee pads?
